Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Jordan Uhl, check out a white mythic rare creature from Innistrad: Crimson Vow — Cemetery Protector!
Four mana for a 3/4 Human Solider with flash isn’t that big of a deal, so let’s take a look at the abilities.
When Cemetery Protector enters the battlefield, exile a card from a graveyard.
Whenever you play a land or cast a spell, if it shares a card type with the exiled card, create 1/1 white Human creature token.
Once again, four mana is a lot for a singular piece of graveyard interaction, but it can work in a pinch. The next ability, however, turns Cemetery Protector into an army in a can. By playing a land or casting a spell with the card type of the exiled card, you get to make a 1/1 Human token. Even if the exiled card is a land, you can get a 1/1 on every land drop. If the exiled card happens to be a creature or other type of common spell, you can pump out many more tokens that synergize with various Human payoffs.
What do you think of Cemetery Protector? Is it worth the sum of its parts or does it fall a bit short in playability?
