On today’s episode of Weekly MTG, Blake Rasmussen was joined by Aaron Forsythe to preview new and reprint cards from Modern Horizons 2.
New Cards
Solitude
The white member of the Elemental Incarnation cycle, Solitude was designed to essentially be Swords to Plowshares, since design feels that Modern still isn’t quite ready to have the actual removal spell in the format.
Esper Sentinel
In an effort to expand the color pie, Esper Sentinel was designed to give white more card draw options while keeping true to the taxing flavor of white.
Reprints
Nevinyrral’s Disk
Ranger Captain of Eos*
*Only available in Collector Boosters.
Urza, Lord High Artificer
Solitary Confinement
In an effort to make lower-tier decks more relevant in Modern, Forsythe explains they wanted to inject specific cards into the format to give boosts to these decks. Forsythe directly cites Reanimator and Enchantress strategies as two of the recipients of such cards.
Sterling Grove
Enchantress’s Presence
So what do you think of the cards previewed today? Which ones are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments!
