Runo Stromkirk Gets Own Card In Innistrad: Crimson Vow

Dimir legend a Vampire Cleric that transforms into a Kraken Horror.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Papo, check out a legendary Vampire Cleric from Innistrad: Crimson Vow — Runo Stromkirk!

Runo Stromkirk is here and has a lot of text. Let’s dive in and see what all this 1/4 flying Dimir Vampire Cleric for three mana can do.

When Runo Stromkirk enters the battlefield, put up to one target creature card from your graveyard on top of your library.

At the beginning of your upkeep, look at the top card of your library. You may reveal that card. If a creature card with mana value 6 or greater is revealed this way, transform Runo Stromkirk.

Runo is looking to be played in a deck with at least some amount of self mill to enable setting up his second ability. While you don’t have to focus on expensive creatures exclusively, he’s going to work best with a six-drop or higher being milled and then returned to the top of the library to transform. Of course, you can also find a discard outlet to get the giant creature into the graveyard ahead of playing Runo.

Whenever Krothuss, Lord of the Deep attacks, create a tapped and attacking token that’s a copy of another target attacking creature. If that creature is a Kraken, Leviathan, Octopus, or Serpent, create two of those tokens instead.

Runo transforms into a flying 3/5 Kraken Horror that’s going to play best alongside other creatures from the deep. Krothuss makes a copy of another attacking creature upon attacking, but doubles the fun if you target a Kraken, Leviathan, Octopus, or Serpent. These tokens don’t leave the battlefield unless they get removed, so let your army of sea creatures grow until they pull your opponent under.

What do you think of Runo Stromkirk? Can you find a home for a Vampire Cleric that transforms into a Kraken Horror?
