Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has released data indicating that the audience for the Commander format has tripled since 2018.
According to WotC, data collected at the start of 2018 saw “around 9,000 unique players sitting down for Commander play in WPN members stores each week.” When measured again this past February, that number had increased to “28,000 unique players a week” and “doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.”
Upon freezing data collection in early February, WotC also found that all WPN stores had on average 1,846 Tickets, while stores that held Commander events had 2,111 Tickets – an increase of 14%. WPN Premium locations were also found to be running “an average of 61 Commander events a year” — indicating that Commander play is huge part of playerbase growth in local game stores.
