MTG Arena State Of The Game Previews Minsc, Beloved Ranger, Talks Evolution Of Historic

Check out the updates and new events coming soon to MTG Arena!

MTG Arena used this month’s State of the Game article to discuss upcoming events, the future of the Historic format, and preview a new mythic rare from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms — Minsc, Beloved Ranger!

Minsc, Beloved Ranger

When Minsc, Beloved Ranger enters the battlefield, create Boo, a legendary 1/1 red Hamster creature token with trample and haste.

X: Until the end of turn, target creature you control has base power and toughness X/X and becomes Giant in addition to its other types. Activate only as a sorcery.

A fan-favorite among the Dungeons & Dragons crowd, Minsc is a three-mana 3/3, and is accompanied by his adorable companion, Boo, a 1/1 red Hamster. For an investment size of your choice, Boo can becomes a Giant Hamster (literally), and can put pressure on your opponents right away thanks to trample and haste.

Historic Updates

In order to capitalize on the recent popularity of Historic, the development of Pioneer Masters is being put on hold. Historic will continue to slowly evolve into Pioneer, but players should not expect a Pioneer Masters set anytime this year.

FNM @ Home

Now that most local game stores are able to host in-person Friday Night Magic events, the FNM @ Home events are being moved to Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will be rebranded to “Midweek Magic.” The first Midweek Magic event will have the same structure as previous FNM @ Home events and will take place on July 13.

Dungeons

While the new mechanic was revealed last week, we get our first look at dungeons on MTG Arena today. If you’re unfamiliar with dungeons, Nick Miller has you covered.

Quality of Life Improvements

In an ongoing effort to improve MTG Arena’s user interface, the horizontal deckbuilder feature is now usable on mobile devices.

For Constructed game modes, “clicking on a card now brings up an interface to allow you to add or remove copies of that card. You can also drag the card out of the deck (PC only) as a shortcut to remove all copies.”
