Tom Maxwell won the Historic Hooglandia Open on Saturday with Gruul Aggro.

Maxwell became the first two-time Hoogland Open champion, using Gruul Aggro once again in Historic to claim the crown. The Hooglandia Open was one of the first large Historic tournaments following the release of Strixhaven and the format-warping Mystical Archive cards. The tournament had 115 entrants and was double elimination. Maxwell finished 10-1 overall, defeating Dbeard115 on Orzhov Humans in the finals.

Maxwell’s Gruul list didn’t utilize any new cards, but Dbeard115’s Orzhov Humans list did with Elite Spellbinder, Silverquill Command, and Selfless Glyphweaver.

The rest of the Top 8 finishers included: two copies of Temur Flash and one copy of Jeskai Control — all playing Magma Opus and Torrential Gearhulk — Boros Wizards (Lurrus), Izzet Phoenix, and Gruul Land Destruction.

Izzet Phoenix and Gruul Land Destruction both used multiple cards from the Mystical Archive. Izzet Phoenix, one of the most hyped decks on the weekend, played Brainstorm and Faithless Looting while Gruul Land Destruction played Stone Rain and Primal Command.
