Kaldheim’s Weathered Runestone Latest Graveyard Hate Card

New artifact an upgraded variant of Grafdigger’s Cage for an extra mana.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Taalia Vess, take a look at the latest graveyard/library hate card from Kaldheim — Weathered Runestone!

The newest Grafdigger’s Cage variant costs an additional mana, but has some slight upgrades.

Nonland permanent cards in graveyards and libraries can’t enter the battlefield,

While Grafdigger’s Cage only shuts down creatures from entering the battlefield from the graveyard or library, Weathered Runestone extends to all nonland permanents. This will help keep players from returning planeswalkers, enchantments, and artifacts from being returned. The ramifications on Standard mostly impact Elspeth Conquers Death from returning a planeswalker though it also stops Rise to Glory, despite its lack of relevance in competitive play.

Players can’t cast spells from graveyards or libraries.

The second line of text is identical to Grafdigger’s Cage so its functionality remains the same there. Weathered Runestone will do its best impersonation of the one-mana artifact in Standard while supplementing in older formats like Historic and beyond.

What do you think of Weathered Runestone? Is the extra mana worth it or would you prefer Grafdigger’s Cage?
