Good Morning Magic Does Q&A With Arena Team

Learn all about how MTG Arena works from behind the scenes with a Q&A with members of the development team.

With the release of MTG Arena on IOS yesterday, Gavin Verhey used today’s episode of Good Morning Magic to talk to various members of the Arena team to ask them questions from his viewers.

The Q&A session ranged from many topics to technical to tactical. Fun questions included what is the most popular basic land and what sleeve art has the highest winning percentage. The Nyx starfield basic lands are the most popular, edging out some of the other full art basics. The Japanese alternate art Chandra, Fire Artisan sleeves turned out to the have the highest winning percentage besides a special sleeve only given to MPL members.

Members of the team explained how cards are coded and what happens when certain cards break the game engine rules. Other members revealed what some of the strangest bugs they encountered, those being when Forests made mana without tapping, when mana symbols and other parts of card text would appear over the game’s battlefield, and when Alrund, God of the Cosmos would put basically all cards from the game into the controller’s hand after activating his ability.

The most popular FNM At Home format is Momir as it was the most accessible by not requiring a deck to enter the event. Lastly, Daily Deals are determined by the team looking to offer ranges of styles based on some of most played cards in all formats offered on Arena.
