Good Morning Magic Covers Commander With Menery

Join Gavin Verhey and Sheldon Menery for an in-depth discussion about Commander!

Gavin Verhey was joined by founding member of the Commander Rules Committee and SCG content creator Sheldon Menery for an interview on the 100-card format in today’s Good Morning Magic.

Menery, who is coming off a recent stint working on Commander in Renton alongside R&D, talked with Verhey to cover some of the hottest topics in regards to Commander.

First they discussed the companion mechanic and his impact on it. Menery talked with the Magic rules manager to come to the conclusion that companion is an okay mechanic for Commander as restrictions breed creativity as opposed to cards like Wishes. With companion being self-referential and self-limiting it leads to more decisions and creativity for the format.

Next they touched on Lutri, the Spellchaser and its immediate banning. While the advisory committee considered letting Lutri exist in the format for the first quarter, they decided that the feel bads for people acquiring the card only for it get to banned in a few months outweighed any of the positives of letting Lutri be free.

They wrapped up the video going over the three cards Menery is most excited to put into his Commander decks. No. 1 with a bullet is Mythos of Snapdax, so that he can have more tools to stay the monarch while playing with Queen Marchesa.
