Originally printed in Coldsnap (with reprints in From the Vault: Lore and Ultimate Masters), Dark Depths was an insignificant rare in a widely panned set until Zendikar came along. It was then that Vampire Hexmage helped create Thopter Depths — a monster of an Extended deck built around Dark Depths + Vampire Hexmage and Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek.

With the arrival of Thespian Stage (originally printed in Gatecrash with future printings in Ultimate Masters and Commander 2019), Dark Depths fans were given a second way to make an indestructible 20/20 on the cheap. This combo had an immediate impact on Legacy, as the popular Lands archetype was able to incorporate it seamlessly and an archetype all of its own, Golgari Depths, was made to use all three cards together and power out a 20/20 as quickly as possible.

Will we be seeing indestructible 20/20s ahead of schedule in Double Masters booster draft? One can only hope!
