Damo Da Rosa Tied For Top Spot In MPL After November Zendikar Rising League Weekend

Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa and Rei Sato tied for first in MPL while Luis Scott-Vargas paces the Rivals League.

Reigning world champ Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa went 6-5 in his MPL matches in the November Zendikar Rising League Weekend to tie Rei Sato for the lead at fifteen wins.

Damo da Rosa and Sato sit atop the MPL standings at 15-8 after two League Weekends, though Sato, who went 4-6 this weekend after an incredible 11-1 performance in the first League Weekend in October, still has a match to make up that could give him the overall lead with a win. Damo da Rosa opted for Dimir Rogues this weekend after a 9-3 run with Rakdos Midrange in October, while Sato stuck with Gruul Adventures, the same deck that helped him mount a lead last month.

Top performers in the MPL this weekend were Ken Yukihiro, who went 8-3 with Mono-Green Food to improve to 12-11 overall, and Andrea Mengucci, Piotr Glogowski, Jean-Emmanuel Depraz, and Chris Kvartek who all went 7-4.

Standings for the MPL after two weekends can be seen below now that the players have had eleven matches this weekend and twelve in October. Records with an asterisk (*) represent players that have matches still remaining to be played (Brad Nelson had to reschedule three matches against Sato, Martin Juza, and Seth Manfield).

Members of the Rivals league battled in twelve more matches this weekend and Hall of Famer Luis Scott-Vargas leads the pack at 18-6 after a second straight League Weekend of going 9-3. Scott-Vargas switched to Gruul Adventures this weekend after using Dimir Rogues in October. Matt Sperling matched LSV’s nine-win mark this weekend with Esper Doom Foretold (Yorion), moving him into second place in the Rivals league with a 17-7 overall record.

Shintaro Ishimura was the third Rivals player to go 9-3 on the weekend, improving on his 6-6 record from October as the lone Temur Ramp player. Other strong performers from Rivals this weekend were Emma Handy, Zach Kiihne, Lucas Esper Berthoud, and Matthieu Avignon all going 8-4.

Scott-Vargas (18-6) and Sperling (17-7) hold the top two spots in Rivals after two League Weekends, but Bernardo Santos and Stanislav Cifka occupy the next two spots at 16-8.

Win totals for MPL and Rivals can be parsed from a Magic Esports tweet from yesterday. Austin Bursavich still has seven outstanding matches to make up from missing the first League Weekend, so many records and win totals will change after they are reported.
