Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and the NHL’s Seattle Kraken, take a look at this massive sea creature from Kaldheim — Icebreaker Kraken!
Well they did it. WotC released the Kraken!
Starting as a twelve-mana 8/8, Icebreaker Kraken will almost never be cast for its full mana cost – being reduced to as little as UU if you control ten snow lands. While the cost may seem steep, Icebreaker Kraken’s enter the battlefield ability stops your opponent’s creatures and artifacts in their tracks.
It’s also important to note that you do not have to cast Icebreaker Kraken to trigger this ability, meaning you can use reanimation spells or abilities like Gyruda, Doom of Depths and Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy to cheat it onto the battlefield.
If you’ve got enough snow lands to cast Icebreaker Kraken, then you’ve got enough to help this massive beast evade most removal and sweeper spells. In the late-game, you can even activate this ability to bounce the Kraken in order to replay your lands to trigger landfall abilities.
So what do you think of Icebreaker Kraken? What deck would you play it in? Let us know in the comments below!
