Yesterday, Riftbound announced they would be taking action against two cards in the game’s Standard and 2v2 Constructed formats — Ekko, Recurrent and Stacked Deck.
Despite having a below-average play rate, the Lux combo deck, enabled by Ekko, Recurrent, was found in violation of Riot’s vision for “fun and interactive” gameplay. According to developers, the deck has “…limited windows of interaction and solitaire-esque gameplay…” and they feel that removing Ekko from both formats will curb the infinite combo potential while having little impact on other Mind decks.
As for Stacked Deck, developers feel that it provides too much value and is a “low opportunity cost inclusion…” for Chaos decks and when combined with Lightning Rush, Stacked Deck “…lets Kennen churn through the deck a little too efficiently…”. Without Stacked Deck as an auto-include in (most) Chaos decks, Riot hopes to see the archetype’s engine slow down and bring Kennen “…more in line with other top decks.”
These bans will go into effect on Friday, September 18.
