Blue Gets New Sphinx In Sphinx of the Second Sun In Commander Legends

In the market for some extra phases? This new Sphinx has you covered!

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and the Commander Rules Committee (RC), check out this wildly powerful Sphinx from Commander Legends — Sphinx of the Second Sun!

Sphinx’s have a long, rich history in Magic and are often associated with temporal matters, and Sphinx of the Second Sun is no different.

At the beginning of your postcombat main phase, you get an additional beginning phase after this phase.

Sphinx of the Second Sun is a powerful Magic card. Like, really powerful. Granting an additional beginning phase includes untap, upkeep, and draw steps, which means it functionally pays for itself by untapping all your mana and drawing a card.

You may not get a true extra turn (which would include an additional combat step) like you would with something like Nexus of Fate, but this ability activates on each of your turns, meaning the longer it survives, the more value it generates. And to top things off, Sphinx of the Second Sun is a 6/6 with flying, making it a decent attacker as well.

Overall, Sphinx of the Second Sun is an exciting card for all sorts of Commander decks, but may even see play in Eternal formats where it can be easily cheated onto the battlefield. Did we mention it’s not legendary either? Have fun cloning this bad boy to generate even more value!

In addition to the Sphinx, the Commander RC also previewed three other blue cards, including reprints of two, well-known creatures and one brand-new one.
