Black Gets Unique Snow Payoff In Draugr Necromancer In Kaldheim

New Zombie Cleric keeps all the reanimating fun on your side of the battlefield.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Riley Knight, check out a massive snow payoff from Kaldheim — Draugr Necromancer!

This four-mana 4/4 Zombie Cleric is a snow creature that delivers a massive snow payoff for playing with snow-covered basic lands and other snow producing mana sources.

If a nontoken creature an opponent controls would die, exile that card with an ice counter on it instead.

By simply being on the battlefield, Draugr Necromancer prevents your opponents from reanimating any fallen creatures by exiling them. While it doesn’t completely hose all graveyard shenanigans, it does a great job at shutting down the titans from Theros Beyond Death and other creatures with escape from continuously returning to the battlefield.

But wait, there’s more!

You may cast spells from among cards in exile your opponents own with ice counters on them, and you may spend mana from snow sources as though it were mana of any color to cast those spells.

Instead of your opponents getting to have all the reanimating fun, Draugr Necromancer gives you the power to bring back their creatures. As long as you have enough sources of snow mana, you can play any creature that dies while Draugr Necromancer is on the battlefield. If you’re looking for a great reason to include snow-covered basics in your deck, this creature is it. Even if you’re playing a deck that can’t cast it but have Threaten effects like The Akroan War, you’ll want to be able to take advantage of its second ability.

What do you think of Draugr Necromancer? Does too much have to go right to abuse it or does the splash of graveyard hate make it good enough?

Kaldheim is currently scheduled to release on February 5. You can check out our official Kaldheim Preview Gallery here.
