Black Gets Iconic Monster In Gelatinous Cube In Adventures In The Forgotten Realms

An iconic D&D monster gets its MTG variant in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms!

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and IGN, another iconic Dungeons & Dragons monster gets its Magic: The Gathering adaptation in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms — Gelatinous Cube!

Engulf – When Gelatinous Cube enters the battlefield, exile target non-Ooze creature an opponent controls until Gelatinous Cube leaves the battlefield.

Similar to cards like Banisher Priest and Deputy of Detention, Gelatinous Cube removes any non-Ooze creature until it leaves the battlefield, but with a power and toughness of 4/3, this four-mana Ooze has more survivability than most of its counterparts.

Dissolve – XB: Put target creature card with mana value X exiled with Gelatinous Cube into its owner’s graveyard.

Once the Cube has engulfed a creature, you can pay a one time cost equal to that creature’s mana cost to dissolve it, which essentially destroys it and sends it back to its owner’s graveyard. While it can be hard to justify dumping all your mana into removing a big creature, it’s more reasonable than you might think, especially in Limited formats or if you find yourself low on playable cards and need something to do with your mana.

So what do you think of Gelatinous Cube? Is this Standard’s new Ravenous Chupacabra? Let us know what you think in the comments!
