WotC Addresses Battle Of The Pelennor Fields Scene Mix-up

WotC clarifies internal confusion that lead to a mixup in Magic’s The Lord of the Rings set

Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has released a statement addressing an error on a card included in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields scene from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set — The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth.

The set features several scenes which are made up of individual cards that come together to form a larger art piece. The one with the character in question is The Battle of the Pelennor Fields, illustrated by Tyler Jacobson.

The stunning piece was was originally commissioned with Théoden, King of Rohan as the focal point, but was later “swapped out of [the] scene in error after the art had been approved.” The card, previously Théoden, King of Rohan, was changed to Éomer, Marshal of Rohan, and an internal miscommunication lead to the card title, mana cost, and rules text being swapped after the art had already been approved.

According to WotC, the non-scene versions of both cards depict the correct characters and they believe that the mix-up does not take away from the spectacular artwork.
