Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced they will be no longer partnering with Judge Academy as of October 13, 2023.
According to Judge Academy’s open letter to the Magic community, they will still be providing “training, testing, and certification” until another entity steps up to fill the role, however no such replacement has been named at this time. Judge Academy also provided a Q&A covering any questions players or judges may need addressed within the letter.
WotC has not disclosed their plan for filling Judge Academy’s position, but have stated that they are “currently working with tournament organizers and stores for a new framework and approach to Magic judging”. At this time, WotC does not foresee this split causing any problems for upcoming MTG events, since many stores and tournament organizers have pre-existing contacts with certified judges. Judge conferences will also still be taking place during select MagicCon events.
