Netflix announced DIGIC Pictures will animate the upcoming Magic: The Gathering show at the Annecy Film Festival 2025 held in Annecy, France over the weekend.
Dylan Thomas, Director of Adult Animation at Netflix, presented the future lineup of shows for the streaming giant, featuring Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, the second season of Blue Eye Samurai, Mating Season, and Haunted Hotel in addition to the Magic: The Gathering animated show.
When discussing the Magic show, Thomas said, “This series is an epic fantasy saga that centers around three powerful mages, known as planeswalkers, who are able to travel across infinite worlds, each one vividly distinct from one another.”
Those vivid and infinite worlds will be animated by DIGIC Pictures, an animation studio based out of Budapest, Hungary with more than 22 years of experience. DIGIC has worked on Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Rainbow Six: Siege, Star Wars: Outlaws, and Secret Level, a series from Prime Video.
Concept art for the Magic show was shown at the Festival, but it hasn’t been released to the public as of yet. Thomas said that more of the show will be revealed throughout 2026, but there is still no expected release date.
Big names like Terry Matalas, Patrick Osborne, and Simon Rogers are still attached to the show. Matalas is a showrunner known for Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and MacGyver. Osborne worked on special effects for I Am Legend and has credits as an animator for Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, and Bolt.
