Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has released its weekly update article for MTG Arena, highlighting tomorrow’s release of the new Explorer and Historic Anthologies, the upcoming format rotation schedule, future events, and more.
New Anthologies Hit MTG Arena Tomorrow
Historic Anthology 7 and Explorer Anthology 3 release tomorrow on MTG Arena. Each expansion includes 25 cards new to MTG Arena and costs 25,000 gold or 4,000 gems. Individual cards can be crafted with wild cards. See the previews for the Historic and Explorer Anthologies before the sets go live on the client.
The MTG Arena store is also brining back Explorer Anthology 2 for a limited time. Until September 5, pick up the previous Explorer Anthology for the same price of 25,000 gold or 4,000 gems. This Anthology features cards like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Mutavault, Mana Confluence, Brave the Elements, Eidolon of the Great Revel, Thought-Knot Seer, and more.
Upcoming Format Rotation And Renewal Rewards
While Standard is not going to rotate any sets this year after the announcement earlier this year that the format would only rotate every three years, Alchemy will have a rotation. With the release of Wilds of Eldraine, Alchemy will lose four Standard sets and four Alchemy-only expansions.

Renewal rewards will still be awarded to players with the Renewal Egg that will appear in the MTG Arena client soon. The Renewal Egg will show how much time remains for set rotation for Alchemy. It will also contain awards for players, which in the past have been packs and Individual Card Rewards (ICRs) from sets still legal in Standard.

Historic Metagame Challenge This Weekend
To celebrate the upcoming Historic and Explorer Anthologies coming to MTG Arena, each format will have a Metagame Challenge for players to use the cards to win prizes. This weekend is the Historic Metagame Challenge while next weekend is the Explorer Metagame Challenge.
Each event will cost 2,000 gold or 400 gems to enter and award prizes based on wins in Best-Of-One play. Reach seven wins in either and win 5,000 gold and 30 packs. Pack rewards for the Historic Metagame Challenge are The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and packs for the Explorer Metagame Challenge are Shadows over Innistrad Remastered.
The Historic Metagame Challenge starts Friday and runs through Monday morning.
