A Minnesota art museum has announced a public call for art to use in a Magic: The Gathering-themed exhibition.
The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM), located in Winona, MN, will be seeking submissions for the exhibit Currents of Control – Blue in Magic: The Gathering until June 30. The exhibition is working with Wizards of the Coast (WotC) to increase public awareness of MTG and its art. The exhibit will run from February 20 to August 22, 2027. Artists will receive a $100 honorarium per artwork selected and free gallery admission to MMAM.
The selection process will factor in artistic quality, strength of public awareness of the work, card playability/usage in historical or current decks, and representation of water/Blue magic. Submissions can be of any traditional media and can be of any size. There is no fee to submit pieces and the only limitation to submissions is owning the art and being able to reach a FedEx.
Mike Linneman, the Director of Development for MMAM, appears to have spearheaded the exhibit. Linneman, known as Vorthos Mike in the MTG art community, has been posting about the project on social media. Follow him on Bluesky for more updates or read an interview with him from Cascade Cascade.
MMAM is a nonprofit art museum that explores relationships with water that opened in 2006.
