The Resolve or Dissolve Dilemma

Magic is nominally a one on one game. Magic (like poker) is quite literally mano a mano. However, there are actions you can take that will make it seem like an actual army has got your back. You’ll be able to read the future like an open book. Pull a Cassandra and tell people you’ve already won the tournament. They won’t believe you, of course. Through no small effort, you’ll get the skills and an arsenal that will serve you in any kind of setting.

SCG Daily #5 – How To Draft Your Thing

Well friends, it’s been a fun week. Getting to talk about two my favorite subjects was certainly a treat. I hope the readers had a good time as well. Today is the drafting finale, and the format of choice when you’ve got 7 buddies, a quality printer, and lots of time on your hands. It’s only one of the Top 5 coolest things you can do with the game of Magic and it won an award! How could you not read this article?

SCG Daily #4 – How To Draft Anything

Now that you know how to draft everything, Noah also gives some tips and pointers about how to draft anything.

SCG Daily: How to Draft Everything Part 3

Today’s installment includes all the forty card formats from Invasion until the present day.

SCG Daily: How to Draft Everything Part 2

Today’s installment goes from December ’93 all the way to June of 2000. Interestingly, this article both begins and ends with draft sets that are exceedingly unfun.

SCG Daily #1 – How to Draft Everything Part 1

This week I’m going to tell you how to draft everything. Yes, everything. To start things off, I’ll give you the best colors and strategies for every core set draft since Alpha/Beta/Unlimited.

Gamers and Depression

Depression is a fact of life for many players, and quite a few don’t even know they have it. Everyone from the top pros down to the most casual can be afflicted with this disease. It’s an unfortunate truth that people who have a propensity for this kind of recreation and/or lifestyle seem to also have an extra susceptibility to this illness. The hope is to raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease, and the strategies for beating it.

Down and Back Again: A Pro Tour LA Report

How’d Noah’s Los Angeles go? Well, he scrubbed out of the Pro Tour, nearly got DQ’d, did some Pro Tour Feature Match coverage, watched Zvi Mowshowitz pick up babes, ate at Fogo De Chao, was assaulted by zombies in downtown LA, and got to ride rollercoasters. If you are a fan of the lost art of tournament reports, you cannot miss this one.

The BOO Draft Happeneth

Far be it from me to say that Wizards doesn’t know what it’s doing, but sometimes people like to play with cards from a different set. A non-existent set, to be fair, but no less fun for its lack of mass production or corporeal presence. A bunch of us were sitting around one day, drafting Cube/Champs block, and having a fun, although pedantic time. “What if”, someone suggested, “We draft with cards the players made? What if everyone creates cards for a draft, and then we draft them? Wouldn’t that be a fun time?”

Yes it would.

Magic Online’s 9th Release Championship: 1st Place! (Probably)

Noah goes for the gold today with his article about the 9th Edition Championships on Magic Online. Part tournament report, part Limited format expose, part cathartic rant about an event that never finished, this article covers all the over and underrated cards in 9th Edition Limited.

ESPN

I’m often reminded of the cinema classic Back to the Future: Part 2. In it Marty McFly gets a sports almanac from the future and is going to use it to accurately predict upcoming sporting events for personal gain. Dr. Emmit Brown – played magnificently by Sir Anthony Hopkins – tells Marty that it is wrong to know the future, and certainly wrong to use it for your personal ends. Well my friends, Dr. Brown was wrong. It is not wrong, and it’s very powerful.

Grand Prix: Minnesota *14th Place*, Part 2

7AM rolls around and I am up and at’em! Man o man, do I feel like crap. 5 hours? Am I retarded? But we persevere. Jump in the shower, go down to the little hotel café to grab a coffee and a doughnut thing; We’re on the main floor at 7:45. Let’s do this thing!
Whoops, I was misinformed. Things start at 9, not 8. @$@#%. %#$@

Grand Prix: Minnesota 14th Place, Part 1

Bearl! I know it’s been a Bearl since I Bearled at you, but I’ve been pretty Bearl. I just got my Bearl and have been doing non-Bearl things in my spare Bearl. But since there was a Bearl in MN this previous weekend, I had to Bearl. It went pretty Bearl, and here’s the Bearl. Bearl!

Ahem. That’s what happens when you spend a week in Minnesota.

Pod Killing

Looking for ways to destroy your evil opponents at the Prerelease? That’s exactly what Noah Weil has cooked up for you today, with a heaping helping of strategy on the new cards to help you come out ahead in both the flights and the draft pods.

SCg Daily – Fun3

For this final Daily, I’d like to give some coverage to the funnest format of all time. Pure enjoyment, thy name is Cube Draft.
