Wizards’ Greatest It’s

This weekend, we covered the Vintage Championships – and yeah, we made some boo-boos. So what if, for three hours, the name of the second-place finisher was spelled wrong? Does it really matter whether someone laid a Mishra’s Factory or a Mishra’s Workshop? And dare we talk about the match where, according to the names that we rapidly alternated between, four people were playing each other? Nah. Those weren’t really important. Not, at least, when compared to the mistakes that we found in the Tenth Anniversary of Magic Museum…

Nah. Those weren’t really important. Not, at least, when compared to the mistakes that we found in the Tenth Anniversary of Magic Museum. (Way to cover your ass, Ferrett!)

The Museum was fairly impressive, showcasing the rich history of this game with many paintings, props (including Battlebot remnants and original Mox paintings), and historical tidbits. But alas, several errors crept into the showcase… Many of which were far more amusing than the actual show.

So of course, being the wags that we are, we took pictures.

Wizards had a hugely impressive banner with every tournament-legal card ever printed… Almost. Guess what cards were missing? That’s right; Circle of Protection: Black and Volcanic Island, which were accidentally left out of Alpha’s print run, were accidentally left off of the banner, too. (You can click here for a large picture of this banner – it was vastly intimidating.)

Kai Budde was, for a brief time, from America – at least until they put a piece of masking tape over it. (Every World Champion’s home country was off by one, leading spectators to figure that someone had mixed up a spreadsheet.)

It’s slightly hard to read here, as this was in gray type on glass (we’ve upped the contrast), but Jon Finkel“quiety” wins tournaments. Someone spellchecked this very accuratey before they sent it off to be etched on glass.

When I started editing for StarCityGames, I myself did not know the difference between”it’s” and”its.” Therefore, it warms my heart to see that some other people had no clue, either. (For the record,”it’s” means”it is,” whereas”its” indicates a possessive – meaning that this sentence literally reads,”Magic celebrates it is Ten Year Anniversary.”)
