Welcome to Sweet Tweets—home page edition!
This week has been a busy one. Millionaire playboy Pete Hoefling announced the debut of the new, improved Open Series—complete with $20,000 per weekend in payouts and a 50% prize increase for Invitationals—on Monday, and there was much to Tweet about.
Of course, the return of the #MTGOCube to Magic Online on Wednesday immediately gave everyone food for thought and games to play, leading to the expected abundance of complaints, brags, and discussion of cube strategy. Whether you follow @klug_alters‘ prescribed methods or @SamuelHBlack‘s big spell game plan, there’s a diverse array of strategy available.
Seriously, you can do more than two things.
I promise?
If you want to read up on the design of Magic Online’s first cube, Tom LaPille wrote an interesting feature on the mothership about everything that went into building our newest addiction.
Beyond that, there are big weekends coming. All’s hush-hush for now on the #SCGRI front, as players keep their Avacyn Restored technology quiet for the StarCityGames.com Open Series in Providence, Rhode Island. Between the final stages of preparation for next weekend’s Pro Tour in Barcelona and the first major Standard and Legacy events to feature Avacyn Restored—plus The Avengers, obviously—it’s promising to be a great weekend.
If you won’t be making it out of the house this weekend—I know I won’t, #MTGOCube has usurped my ocular sovereignty—then don’t miss @SCGLive‘s Gerard Fabiano and Jacob Van Lunen as they cover the Open Series in Providence alongside Dane Young. See you guys next week!
