The StarCityGames.com Open Series is making one of its most anticipated returns of the 2012 season: to Las Vegas! I’m sure that many players from all over the world, in addition to the denizens of Sin City, have been looking forward to this weekend, but the only people more excited than you guys might be the staff here at home!
Join myself and the rest of the StarCityGames.com crew at the Alexis Park Resort in the Parthenon rooms. The Alexis Park is at 375 East Harmon, just a short trip from the main strip. Registration starts at 8 AM on Saturday and Sunday for the Standard and Legacy Opens, respectively. Take a look at the venue:
Obviously, Magic 2013 is still a new set that’s flying off the shelves. If you’re concerned about card availability becoming a problem, place an order now! Any orders received before noon on Thursday—the day of this article’s posting—will be eligible for free shipping to the site, where you’ll find them at our sales booth on the day of the tournament.
If you’re on-site, only one alterist will be available: Amber Musick. She’ll be offering her custom, full art playmats as well as creating new works of art and customizing your playmat with original art of her own design. Her available stock and pricing structure can be found on her deviantART page, while you can contact Amber at [email protected] to request a playmat to be picked up at the event.
One of the nice perks of going to Las Vegas is that finding food is never a problem. However, finding food near the tournament site in a timely fashion between rounds—that can be slightly more difficult. To help you guys out, we’ve done a little homework on the area and come up with a list of top options for hungry players.
Sadly, no Fogo lunch hours on the weekend. Bummer!
Obviously there are plenty of "games" afoot in Las Vegas, but Magic’s certain be one of the most interesting thanks to Magic 2013. The Forest folk have come out to play in force, with a ton of different green decks performing at the St. Louis Standard Open and Caleb Durward walking away with the win.
Thragtusk and Rancor fueled this past weekend’s winners, with Elvish Visionary playing bass. Will green continue to remain dominant in Standard, or are the other colors just taking some time to realign? Magic 2013 clearly has a few weapons for everyone, so I can’t imagine the metagame has settled down yet.
The fans of @SCGLive can look forward to a fantastic weekend of broadcasted battling. We’re bringing in big guns Patrick Sullivan and Cedric Phillips for the duration! These two Legacy aficionados will share their thought on Magic 2013’s impact on both formats, and you might even catch some heated discussion about the NBA in a moment of weakness.
Get ahold of Patrick, Cedric, myself, and our directors using Twitter by sending messages to the @SCGLive account, and be sure to include #SCGVEGAS as your hashtag. See you at—the tables?
