SCG Open Series Preview: Seattle

Glenn Jones previews this weekend’s Open Series in Seattle, where your favorite West Coast commentating duo, Patrick Sullivan and Cedric Phillips, will bring you all the action on @SCGLive!

I hope you guys enjoyed the winter theme of Dallas! Glacial Fortress and Tundra each rose to the top in their respective formats, with Shane Remelt piloting U/W Flash to the Standard Open trophy shortly before Joe Bass took down Legacy with U/W/R MiracleBladeForgedSkullBalanceTopToasters. Will we see repeats at the StarCityGames.com Open Series: Seattle?

Seattle is one of my favorite Open Series cities, and with good reason. Between the awesome seafood, the fantastic player base, and the sheer quantity of Starbucks, it’s a dream come true. Personally, I’m hoping to see some spicy brews from the gentlemen of the northwest, as they tend to bring something off-the-wall to every Open Series they attend.

This weekend, we’ll once again be hosted by the Lynnwood Convention Center, just outside the city proper. If you need help finding Room 2DE, then look no further than this handy map!

We’re recommending the Best Western Alderwood for players from out of town. Mention SCG and you’ll earn the best rates available. We’ve also collected a few of the best options for food near the site in a handy-dandy reference tool, seen below. If you need grub between rounds, plan ahead!

This weekend, we’re packing the Lynnwood Convention Center with a trio of talented Magic artists in addition to one of our most accomplished alterists. Stop by their booths and show them some love!

Rob Alexander is returning to the Pacific Northwest to make an appearance at SCG Open Series: Seattle. Famous for his beautiful landscapes, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to get your duals and fetchlands signed or to pick up a print of your favorite original shockland art.

Master of time and space Franz Vohwinkel—or at least the artist for Temporal Mastery and Time Sieve—will be appearing on just Saturday during the Standard Open. He’s drawn a number of format staples like the M13 Oblivion Ring, Glacial Fortress, FNM Krosan Grip, Expedition Map, and Gerry Thompson beloved Wargate.

Magic artist rk post is making a grand tour of Open Series events to end the year, and one of those stops will be in Seattle. Known for a number of iconic pieces, rk’s credits include Avatar of Woe, Ichorid, Lightning Angel, and Morphling. In addition to signing cards, rk is known for drawing some stunning playmats; don’t miss out on an opportunity to pick one up!

Joining our Magic illustrators is alterist Eric Claar of Indianapolis! Eric is known for a number of unique styles, including his minimalist ‘blueprint’ pieces as well as full art pieces, and he’s only recently begun offering custom playmats. You can check out his work on Facebook and deviantART. For commissions, you can contact him through Facebook or email [email protected].

We’re bringing the heat with your favorite West Coast commentating duo in Seattle: Patrick Sullivan and Cedric Phillips! No rest for the wicked on Cedric’s end, as he’s diving straight into Seattle after commentating SCG Open Series: Dallas. Patrick Sullivan, newly minted member of Gary Games, will be making the trek from California to bring you his seasoned analysis and insight. Alongside these two, we’ll be featuring Reuben Bresler in the Sideboard! If you’ve got ideas, requests, or pop culture trivia, ship them to the @SCGLive team using #SCGSEA on Twitter.

Enjoy the show!
