SCG Open Series Preview: New Orleans

StarCityGames.com travels to New Orleans this weekend for the latest stop on the Open Series. Reuben Bresler has all the details for those planning to attend or watch @SCGLive.

What’s good, folks? It’s I, Reuben Bresler, here to preview the SCG Open Series this weekend in the Big Easy. Last weekend was a huge for combo, with the Pro Tour in Seattle getting taken over easy by Eggs, the rights to the Standard Open in Indianapolis being awarded to Reanimator, and the Legacy Open trophy being handed to the deck that rose above all comers, High Tide. Let me catch you all up to speed on this weekend’s Open Series on All Hallow’s Eve in the Bayou.

The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is nestled on the Mississippi River near New Orleans’ famed Canal Street. The Open Series will take place in rooms E-a and E-2, as you can see below on the venue map:

New Orleans Venue

While I’ve never been to this particular tournament site, the location is near everything you’d want to see in the area, with St. Patrick’s Church, Bourbon Street, and the Superdome all within relatively close range. In addition, there are several great food options nearby:

And remember to preorder your cards! It’s been a little while since StarCityGames.com has been anywhere near the Crescent City, so we’re sure to have a lot of orders coming our way (be they Jarad’s Orders or otherwise). Return to Ravnica Standard is an ever-shifting format, so you don’t want to be caught with your techy pants down. As both the Boy Scouts and Scar from the Lion King like to say, be prepared! Place an order with no shipping charges by selecting "Event Pickup" on the website.

In an effort to sneak in as many Magic puns as I can in this preview, we’ve invited a pair of Golem Artisans (aka Magic alterists) to participate in the event:

Lindsay Burley will be selling and creating her unique brand of 3-D cards and tokens as well as custom playmats! Check out her work here, then stop by and check out these awesome cards! For special commissions before the event, you can contact Lindsay at [email protected]. Don’t forget to stop by her YouTube page for a peek into the creative process.

Ron Faris will be painting custom card alterations at the event! Check out his unique alters by following him on his Facebook or his blog. As always, you can e-mail him at [email protected] for commission information!

And if that isn’t enough Magical goodness for you, there’s also my specialty: coverage!

New Orleans will of course be broadcast on @SCGLive. This weekend the all-star tandem of Adrian Sullivan and Joey Pasco will be providing commentary. They will be aided in the Sideboard by yours truly with video and written content for your perusal.

So join us for #SCGNOLA this weekend—you’ll be glad you did!
