Daily Digest: Stubborn Whip

We aren’t even to Dragons Standard yet, and we’re still finding new ways to play this format. #SCGINVI is this weekend, and this deck may be the way to go if you love mucking around in the graveyard!

Master of the Feast is a pretty sweet card, but it’s got a significant drawback. When you cast it, you’re basically hoping they don’t have any removal, either because you stripped it away with a discard spell or because you’re able to use a counterspell on their answer. This deck looks like it’s found the best way to make that a reality.

In addition to the four Thoughtseizes, this deck also has enough ferocity to make Stubborn Denial a potent counterspell. Gurmag Angler and Tasigur, the Golden Fang are also creatures worth protecting, but we need to be filling our graveyard to make them good. Once we’re already doing that, Whip of Erebos is a pretty reasonable inclusion, especially since it works nicely with Master of the Feast.

I like how this deck doesn’t mess around. Despite being a Sultai graveyard deck, there are no Sidisi, Brood Tyrants because ultimately, that isn’t what this deck wants to be doing. It wants to play a big creature, protect it, and smash face.
