Last weekend’s Standard Open in Portland had a couple crazy decks in the Top 8, including this version of Mono-Blue Devotion, which splashes for Collected Company.
The Mono-Blue Devotion decks from last year played some embarrassing creatures, at least compared to everything else legal, and this year’s seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter too much because even the lowliest creatures can attack for two (or, in this case, four).
Thassa, God of the Sea is capable of sneaking in the last few points of damage, and Master of Waves generally leads to blowouts. Collected Company is well worth the splash and helps get you closer to five devotion.
Blue devotion isn’t dead! It just took a little creativity to figure out a shell that works.
