Countdown To Grand Prix Orlando: 11 Days Out – Event Overview!

Grand Prix Orlando is less than two weeks away! Cedric Phillips kicks off our daily countdown with an overview of this fantastic Limited event and hints of what is in store!

Grand Prix Orlando March 24-26!

Happy Spring everyone! As you prepare to do your spring cleaning with friends and family, let me welcome you to the first installment of the Grand Prix Orlando countdown blog! This series of blogs will go over anything and everything concerning Grand Prix Orlando, which, if you’ve ever been to a Grand Prix before, is a lot!

This first entry is simply an overview to give you the rundown about #GPOrlando and start building the excitement for what’s going to be an awesome KLD/AER Limited Grand Prix. Over the next two weeks, I’ll be going over main event and side event information, artists and cosplayers who will be in attendance, food and lodging options, and much more!

All The Kaladesh/Aether Revolt Limited You Can Handle!

Magic is, quite clearly, the best card game in the world. I don’t think that’s up for debate. But what’s the best format in Magic? That can be discussed for hours! Many are huge fans of Standard, given its rapid fluctuation from week to week and how, just as things get settled, a new set arrives and changes the entire landscape. Others love Modern due to its volatile nature and abundance of turn 3 and turn 4 kills built on unique interactions between cards that clearly were never meant to be paired together. Some like to take things a little less seriously with Commander decks built to reflect their personality, while others love to play and show off customized Cubes that blow people away.

But me? I love Limited. Being handed six booster packs with the goal of building a cohesive and powerful 40-card deck is a challenge I’m always up for, so naturally I’m excited to do so again next weekend in Orlando. If Ryan Saxe’s Daily Digest articles are any indication, Kaladesh/Aether Revolt Limited is an incredibly dynamic Limited format where disagreements over the 39th and 40th cards of a deck happen with frightening regularity. I’d say I can’t sign up fast enough, but I already have — and you should too!

If you’re into all of these things as much as I am, and I know plenty of you are, GP Orlando is the place to be March 24-26. So get registration out of the way now and prepare one heck of a weekend in The City Beautiful!

What Else Ya Got?

If you don’t adore Kaladesh/Aether Revolt Limited as much as I do, that’s totally cool. Grand Prix weekends nowadays aren’t only about the main event. It’s about making sure everyone who wants to attend can have an experience they’ll never forget, so we’ve got plenty of other things for you to do! Our Infinite Challenge packages continue to be a huge hit, so we’ve brought those back for #GPOrlando in both three-day and one-day varieties. And because it was such a hit at Grand Prix Louisville earlier this year, we’ve brought back our Ultimate Commander package that is, once again, brought to you by the awesome people over at Ultimate Guard! Throw in some Modern Masters 2017 On-Demand events and a Sunday PTQ for those looking to qualify to play on Magic’s biggest stage and you’ll find that there’s no shortage of things to do during your stay at the Orange County Convention Center. I’ll have more information about all of our other registration options later this week, but if you can’t wait that long, you can learn more about each one here!

Guest of Honor

One of the best parts of any Magic tournament? Special guests! Now we’ve got quite a few amazing guests lined up for Grand Prix Orlando, but when Volkan Baga is a part of the fun, you know something special is going down. A former studio assistant to Donato Giancola, Volkan is one of Magic’s most popular and gifted artists whose technique combines impeccable brushwork and craft with the imagination needed to illustrate fantasy subjects. From Edric, Spymaster of Trest to Panharmonicon and Siege Rhino to Snapcaster Mage, Volkan Baga is one-of-a-kind when it comes to Magic artwork and it is our pleasure to say that he is the guest of honor for Grand Prix Orlando.

What Tomorrow Brings

Grand Prix Orlando is going to be an amazing event, so one little overview from yours truly simply isn’t going to be enough. Tomorrow I’ll be going over each of the registration options, the rewards that go along with them, and making sure that you know which one is the best option for you. See ya then!
