Daily Digest: Modern Is For Traitors

Grand Prix Charlotte and the Modern portion of the #SCGINVI will be defined by Tarmogoyf, Snapcaster Mage, and…Glissa, the Traitor? See this crazy Glissa brew before you sleeve up your contender!

Plenty of flavors of B/G decks exist already, but none are as sweet as this deck. The best part yet: There are no Tarmogoyfs!

Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek clear the way for Glissa, the Traitor to come down and start controlling the game. Executioner’s Capsule and Engineered Explosives are great ways to kill your opponent’s creatures without losing a card. Given enough time, Glissa, the Traitor will make your opponent unable to play creatures at all. Until you get your engine online, the typical B/G discard plus removal package should help. The fact that Glissa, the Traitor is a 3/3 with deathtouch and first strike should hold off a lot of decks too.

There’s also the forgotten Kitchen Finks + Oran-Rief, the Vastwood combo, which is tough to deal with for most decks outside of Path to Exile. A single Lightning Bolt or other removal spell might break out of the soft lock, but the damage may have already been done.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some manlands in the manabase, particularly Treetop Village. Twilight Mire would also help out those hands with multiple green sources, but not enough black for Liliana of the Veil. At the very least, it’s better than the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Since the deck appears to be so mana intensive, it wouldn’t surprise me if some Golgari Rot Farms make their way into the decklist also.

Despite some cosmetic changes, I wouldn’t change much from this decklist. Tarmogoyf would obviously be a nice addition, but it’s not entirely necessary.
