Gruul Gains Legendary Elemental in Phylath, World Sculptor

Prepare to go both wide and tall with Phylath and its plant army.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Alexander Hayne, check out the latest legendary Elemental from Zendikar Rising — Phylath, World Sculptor!

This six-mana 5/5 legendary Elemental combines all the elements a big, splashy creature that Zendikar dreams are made of. Phylath can go wide and tall with just a little help from lands.

When Phylath, World Sculptor enters the battlefield, create a 0/1 green Plant creature token for each basic land you control.

In order to start assembling an army of Plants, all you have to do is play Phylath with a few basic lands on the battlefield. This makes ramping Phylath out earlier not the most powerful play, but it does scale well, especially when factoring in the second ability.

Landfall – Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, put four +1+1 counters on target Plant you control.

After amassing a handful of Plants, every subsequent land drop powers one of them up. This landfall trigger doesn’t depend on basic lands, so any land you can get onto the battlefield will bolster the team, allowing you to spread the wealth each time or by making one massive Plant token.

With a Landfall showcase frame treatment, Phylath, World Sculptor is looking like a great Commander for players of the 100-card format.
