Black Gets Powerful Kicker Spell In Inscription of Ruin

Zendikar Rising has revealed a new cycle of powerful kicker cards

Okay, there is a LOT going on here. Let’s dig in.

Kicker 2BB
Choose one. If this spell was kicked, choose any number instead.

– Target opponent discards two cards

– Return target creature card with converted mana cost 2 or less from the graveyard to the battlefield

– Destroy target creature with converted mana cost 3 or less.

Ignoring the kicker cost, for three mana you’re able to select from three different modes, making this spell relevant at every stage of the game. With kicker applied, this spell becomes a powerful, mid-to-late game tool that can provide big swing turns when activating all three modes.

While we all wish this was instant-speed, Inscription of Ruin is likely to find a home in slower, black-based control and midrange decks that are looking for early-game utility as well as a convenient, late-game mana sink.
