Bonjour mes amis! Today we have the fourth installment of the Daily Deck-a-thon. Today’s deck revolves around a Champions of Kamigawa card named Godo, Bandit Warlord. We are going to build a Red/White deck based around both of Godo’s abilities. Let’s take a look at the deck first, shall we?

1 Tenza, Godo’s Maul
1 Konda’s Banner
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
1 Sword of Light and Shadow
1 Oathkeeper, Takeno’s Daisho
1 Heartseeker
1 Leonin Bola
1 Loxodon Warhammer
1 Memory Mask
1 Ronin Houndmaster
1 Konda, Lord of Eiganjo
1 Takeno, Samurai General
1 Nagao, Bound by Honor

4 Forge[/author]“]Battlefield [author name="Forge"]Forge[/author]
This deck has several things going for it. First of all, it is a samurai deck, containing various samurai, some enhancers, and other cool samurai effects. Second, this is an equipment deck, replete with a toolbox of various equipment that you can tutor for based on your needs. Lastly, it is an aggro deck with some burn.
The only thing keeping this deck from being Type Two legal is the Forge[/author]“]Battlefield [author name="Forge"]Forge[/author]. Feel free to make it Type Two legal if you want. Personally, I rarely play R/W without finding a place for a full set of Orim’s Thunder, and at the multiplayer table, this deck would be no exception. I’d definitely find room for Thunder, probably at the expense of the Houndmaster, Bola, a Godo, and the Maul.
Nagao is lonely, since he’s the only legend without his own piece of equipment. Give him a Sword of R/U Hate or W/B Hate as needed, so he’ll feel like part of the gang. The same is true of Kenzo, in case you flip the Tenderfoot. The Tenderfoot can be saved through a variety of equipment and pumping methods, so bully the Tenderfoot.
Oathkeeper appears to be the broken equipment in this deck, and I’d always tutor for it if nothing else suits the board. Otherwise, I’d go for the Mask of Memory, which is the only card drawing mechanism in the whole deck other than the Sword of Fire and Ice.
Heartseeker is great for late game stalls. The Bola can keep a nasty creature away or help alpha strike an opponent. The Warhammer is best at gaining life, and is an essential tool in multiplayer. The two Swords help sneak creatures through or give useful powers. The Maul is included largely for flavor. The Banner is a great way to pump your creatures.
If you want to play around with other equipment, some ideas include Nemesis Mask, Dead-Iron Sledge, Fireshrieker, Grafted Wargear, Lightning Greaves, Viridian Longbow, Whispersilk Cloak, Skullclamp, Spellbinder and Sword of Kaldra. I looked them all up for you, and those are the best of the rest.
Although the deck does have a few rares, none are high value, so I do not believe that many will need to swap out cards due to expense.
Yesterday’s deck was high-powered and designed with a more powerful opponent in mind. Today’s deck is much more laid back and casual. The fun of this deck is playing it and having a lot of flavor. You could even play this deck at Friday Night Magic, sans the Forge[/author]“]Battlefield [author name="Forge"]Forges[/author], of course. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
Until Later,
Abe Sargent
