MTG—FINAL FANTASY Already The Best-Selling Set Of All Time

Hasbro CEO predicts strong year as Magic revenue Increases 45 percent In Q1

Hasbro, parent company of Wizards of the Coast (WotC), released its First Quarter 2025 Financial Report that shows the company’s first quarter revenue increased 17 percent behind Magic: The Gathering. Those numbers could continue to grow as presales for Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY have already made it the best-selling set of all time, according to Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks.

The Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming segment continues to be the leader for Hasbro as the segment grew 46 percent with growth across both Magic tabletop and digital licensing. Magic revenue increased 45 percent with growth in tabletop and MTG Arena, driven by healthy demand for recent releases and ongoing engagement in backlist content.

As good as Q1 looked for WotC and Magic, Cocks noted that Q2 is going to do “pretty darn well” thanks to the upcoming Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY release in June. Cocks said on the first quarter earnings call that it will be the best selling set of all time on Day 1 and corrected himself by saying “it already is.” On top of ongoing sales for Final Fantasy throughout Q2 and Q3, Cocks said they feel really good about the back half releases of 2025 as well — in particular the Universes Beyond sets.

When trying to pinpoint the success and growth of Magic, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said it’s difficult to identify just one thing as tabletop, digital, Secret Lair, Tarkir: Dragonstorm orders, and Universes Beyond products all lead to a growing consumer base.

“What we are seeing is an expansion of the players base. When you expand the player base it’s a great opportunity to engage them with more products and create a network effect among the players and collecting community and we see that only strengthening as the year goes,” Cocks said. “It is very clear to us that Universes Beyond as a strategy has increased the total active installed base of Magic players, both in terms of reigniting lapsed fans as well as bringing in new fans.”
