Bo Jackson Battle Arena To Debut New Format At SCG CON Cincinnati

New way to play BoBA coming in May

The Bo Jackson Battle Arena trading card game will debut its new format at SCG CON Cincinnati in May.

The Checklist format is a new way to experience Bo Jackson Battle Arena that focuses on fresh gameplay with new ways to play, stressing new interactions and pacing that rewards creativity over repetitive play patterns.

In Checklist, players’ playbooks are built from a curated list of Play Calls known as a Checklist. Players can only play Plays that appear on their Checklist and every Checklist creates a new play experience. The format is meant to change the way the game feels without changing the way the game engine works. Each Checklist will be built around different themes and becomes its own “mini-version of BoBA.” Some of the themes include:

  • High offense, big swings
  • Control and disruption
  • Coin flips and chaos
  • Weapon-type focused gameplay

Notably, the core gameplay of BoBA will remain the same. The Checklist format will use the same heroes, same Hot Dogs, and same Playbook structure, but it changes the tools players have access to in a given game.

The launch of the Checklist format will take place at SCG CON Cincinnati on May 15-17 with The Chili Bowl. The Chili Bowl is the first official Checklist event and it is built around “Chillin. Grillin. Hot Dogs.”

As a famous chili city, it only makes sense that Cincinnati hosts The Chili Bowl. Players can participate in The Chili Bowl and grab some Skyline or Goldstar after the event. The Chili Bowl is played in SPEC+ Playmaker with up to five Grillin (fire) heroes above 160 or up to five Chillin (ice) heroes above 160.

The full Play List and Event Checklist for The Chili Bowl can be found here and the official announcement of the Checklist format can be read from the BoBA site.
