Dan Barnard, a Magic: The Gathering collector based out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, has amassed over 138,000 copies of Stone Rain.

Better known in the Magic community as “Stone Rain Dan”, the land destruction enthusiast’s collection hasn’t been documented in the Guinness Book of World Records, but is certainly worthy of a spot, with an estimated 138,639 copies of Stone Rain. Barnard’s collection contains every edition of the card in which it was printed, as well as copies in multiple languages, test prints, signed cards, and more. One of Magic’s most polarizing commons, Stone Rain was first printed in Alpha – Magic’s first set – and has been reprinted twenty times since, with the most recent being in the Strixhaven Mystical Archive.

According to an interview with TMJ4 News, Barnard began collecting Stone Rain in the 1990’s after hearing of another player who had acquired over 100 copies of a card. Initially, he wanted to challenge himself to beat that record, but over time, Barnard was curious to see if his collecting would affect the market price of the card. Despite it being a relatively inexpensive card, Barnard estimates that his cornering of the Stone Rain market has increased the average cost of the card by 25-50 cents over the years.

“There’s been times just like why am I doing this? Do I really want to do it? But then I talk to people and they’re like it’s so cool that you have that many of that card. And it’s just – wow that’s something. It’s like I’ll keep going.”

Stone Rain Dan’s collection is estimated to be worth between $200,000 and $300,000, with some rarer copies spiking upwards of $5,000. He plans to continue collecting as long as possible before eventually passing his more valuable cards along to his daughter.
