Disney’s Lorcana TCG Reveals Organized Play Kits, Hints At Potential Draft And Multiplayer Formats

Find out what formats Lorcana plans to have, plus new cards and a look at its organized play kit

The development team behind Disney’s Lorcana trading card game (TCG), Ravensburger, has revealed more information on their Organized Play (OP) program, including contents of the OP kit, several new cards, and more.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Ravensburger shared that the initial focus for Lorcana at launch will be on building a player base through casual play at local game stores. These events, known as Lorcana League and Game Nights, will keep track of player participation through a point system, and while everyone who joins in will earn a prize, top point earners will get additional unique rewards. Prizes will include promotional cards, pins, and more, which you can check out below.

According to Lorcana’s brand manager and co-designer, Ryan Miller, the game’s organized play structure was designed to welcome new players and to not be intimidating. Despite the focus on community building and casual play, Miller says there is plenty of room for competitive play under this structure, however it won’t be the focus right out of the gate. While it wasn’t elaborated on, Miller did confirm that as time goes on, Lorcana plans to host larger events that will support the more competitive side of the community.

As far as formats go, Lorcana will have several options, including multiplayer and Draft. Miller, who happens to have formerly worked at Wizards of the Coast (WotC), also stated that the development team is fully open to the idea of fan-made formats, similar to how WotC embraced Commander.
