Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast and Debut Day – Japan, take a look at a new hasty Dinosaur Turtle from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths – Yidaro, Wandering Monster!
There is a lot to take in when breaking down Yidaro, but even at full retail you get a seven-mana 8/8 trampler with haste. If that’s not enough, you get cycling to pitch it in the early-game. But wait! Check out this giant block of text to cap off Yidaro:
When you cycle Yidaro, Wandering Monster, shuffle it into your library from your graveyard. If you’ve cycled a card named Yidaro, Wandering Monster four or more times this game, put it onto the battlefield from your graveyard instead. (Do this before you draw.)
Yidaro was clearly built with the digital landscape in mind, as this is a new type of ability to track in paper. But however you track it, Yidaro is splashy, interesting, and adds a new avenue for deck building. It immediately looks like a control finisher with conveniently built in utility, allowing you to turn it into a new card in the early-game while building up an uncounterable threat in the late-game upon its fourth cycle. You can also just beat down with an 8/8 after taking over the game and hitting your seventh land drop.
Yidaro is also one of many legendary creatures getting the Godzilla Monster Series treatment by becoming Godzilla, Doom Inevitable – as if a giant Dinosaur Turtle wasn’t terrifying enough.
