WotC Announces Updates for Magic Esports

WotC has announced a series of updates for Magic Esports!

As part of their continued response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced new updates for the MPL, Rivals Legaue, and Competitor 2020 Partial Season.

Players Tour Series 2 Cancellations

Previously rescheduled, the Players Tour Series 2 events – Prague (May 29-31), Seattle (June 5-7), and Asia-Pacific have all been cancelled. Any players who were qualified for these events are eligible for travel reimbursement and their invitations will be “honored for a future event”.

2020 Partial Season

Out of caution for the well-being of staff and players, the remaining events in the 2020 Partial Season have been cancelled. WotC plans to “start fresh again next season”, later this year.Additionally, the rosters for both the MPL and Rivals League will remain unchanged, with the addition of a few Rivals players.

Important to note, due to these players maintaining this status, MPL and Rivals League players will not be able to participate in the remaining events that award Mythic Points and will instead be “invited to the October 22-25 Mythic Invitational Zendikar Rising”.

Upcoming Players Tour and Mythic Invitational Events

According to WotC, the Players Tour Finals Minneapolis (July 10-12) and Mythic Invitational Core Set 2021 (July 23-26), “will not be played for Player Points or Mythic Points” and will not have an impact on the MPL or Rivals invitations for the following season.

WotC encourages players not to schedule travel accommodations for these events, as they “will not be extending [the] travel reimbursement policy to these two events”
