Reaching the late-game and winning once there is often the goal for control decks, but it is rare to get a card that helps you do both. Emeria’s Call/Emeria, Shattered Skyclave does just that. This seven-mana finisher comes with a solid backup plan of just being a white source with the potential to enter the battlefield untapped.

Create two 4/4 white Angel Warrior creature tokens with flying. Non-Angel creatures you control gain indestructible until your next turn.

Seven mana gets you eight power of flying creatures and the bonus of protecting other creatures to make sure you reach that next turn for them to attack. A control deck might not have many other creatures to make indestructible, but will take a win condition that can also be a land. The Angels also happen to be Warriors if you’re in the business of playing party spells.

As Emeria, Shattered Skyclave enters the battlefield, you may pay 3 life. If you don’t, it enters the battlefield tapped.

While control decks might not want to pay that much life for untapped mana, the option to have a win condition attached to a land that enters the battlefield most of the time might make it worth it. Having the flexibility to have the mana untapped could be game-winning against midrange or control opponents. Of course, an aggressive white deck can also use Emeria’s Call with little regard for the life payment to have an option to make a couple Angels if the game goes late.
