Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Forbes, take a look at this new mythic rare Angel from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt — Enduring Angel!
A five-mana 3/3, Enduring Angel is a great stabilizer against aggressive decks. While on the battlefield, it gives you hexproof, protecting your life total from burn spells and your hand from targeted disruption like Thoughtseize or Duress. Plus, since Enduring Angel also has double strike, it can be a reliable blocker against smaller creatures.
Should attackers break through and reduce your life total to zero, instead of losing the game, Enduring Angel transforms into Angelic Enforcer. Of note however, is the ominous line “Then if Enduring Angel didn’t transform this way, you lose the game.” This clause can be interpreted several different ways, implying the set contains either ways to force a card’s transformation or ways to prevent a transformation. For now, we’ll just have to speculate, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.
Moving on to the flip side, Angelic Enforcer’s base power and toughness are equal to your life total, so it will almost always start out as a 3/3 after first transforming and then grow substantially from that point with each attack. Plus, if you have a way to give Angelic Enforcer lifelink, things can get out of hand fast.
