Naturally, following the flood of strong tournament results, Magic fans have taken to social media to discuss the power level of companions and if they deserve to be included in Banned & Restricted talks.
Continuing this discussion, Tumblr user pigmywurm asked Magic: The Gathering Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, on his Blogatog, what the protocol would be should a companion be too powerful even for Vintage — a format that is defined by powerful cards and normally only restricts cards to one copy, rather than being outright banned.
While a relief to know Wizards of the Coast (WotC) could take the steps to ban a (very) problematic card in Vintage, it is notable that a mechanic less than two weeks old is already being brought up in the same discussion as bannings in Eternal formats.
