Koizumi battled through nine rounds of Swiss and four elimination rounds to earn the invite to the Kaldheim Championship and $1,500. At 7-2 after the Swiss, Koizumi just made the Top 12 cut as the 12th seed, then had to win four matches on the draw. Koizumi defeated Rory King on Azorius Control in the wild card round, Luka Honnay also on Azorius Control in the quarterfinals, Wenzel Krautmann on Azorius Auras (Lurrus) in the semifinals, and Tristan Wylde-LaRue on Rakdos Sacrifice in the finals.
Despite Sultai and Four-Color Midrange combining to be 28% of field of the 279-person event, only two copies made the Top 12. Shamil Abhuani joined Koizumi in the elimination rounds on Four-Color Midrange, while zero of the 65 players on normal Sultai Midrange made the cut. Goblins was the next most-played deck at 51 copies when combining Mono-Red and all the different sideboard splashing variants. Three Goblins decks made the Top 12, though two fell in the wild card round. Check out the metagame breakdown of decks with more than five copies below:

The power of Yasharn, Implacable Earth was highlighted in the finals by shutting down Wylde-LaRue’s deck, highlighting the difference between Sultai and the Four-Color Midrange build. The 46 copies of Sacrifice decks in the event made the Elemental Boar incredibly important, swinging an unfavorable matchup for Sultai into a favorite for Four-Color Midrange.
