Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast and MTG Goldfish, take a look at the latest cycling payoff card from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths – Unpredictable Cyclone.
With cycling being a sub-theme in Ikoria, it only makes sense there is a wacky and potentially very powerful payoff engine in the set as well. Unpredictable Cyclone is exactly that, by being a card that cycles, and also the card that lets you build fun and elaborate combos around the mechanic.
If a cycling ability of another nonland card would cause you to draw a card, instead exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a card that shares a card type with the cycled card. You may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Then put the exiled cards that weren’t cast this way on the bottom of your library in a random order.
In a nod to Possibility Storm (while also sharing the same converted mana cost), Unpredictable Cyclone is the marquee build-around card for cycling. Now, whether you plan to do something outlandish or just use it for value is up to you.
Simply putting a lot of cards with cycling in your deck will automatically generate value with this card and it shares a color with another awesome cycling card from Ikoria, Yidaro, Wandering Monster. Or, pair it with another enchantment like Shark Typhoon to be able to tutor up the shark generator while giving yourself plenty of options when cycling.
Much like Possibility Storm, Unpredictable Cyclone can lead to an easy Emrakul, the Aeons Torn with a little bit of work, but we’re just scratching the surface with this card.
