Hive Of The Eye Tyrant Provides Black New Creature-Land From Adventures In The Forgotten Realms

Learn more about the black card in the cycle of new creature-lands.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Geek Culture, check out a new black creature-land coming in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms — Hive of the Eye Tyrant!

The black creature-land in the cycle of rare lands from Magic’s latest set becomes a Beholder and comes with a module variant with art by DiTerlizzi.

If you control two or more other lands, Hive of the Eye Tyrant enters the battlefield tapped.

T: Add B.

3B: Until end of turn, Hive of the Eye Tyrant becomes a 3/3 black Beholder creature with menace and “whenever this creature attacks, exile target cards from defending player’s graveyard.” It’s still a land.

Hive of the Eye Tyrant can be an untapped land if it’s your first or second land but is a tapped land later in the game. When you animate it into a creature, it has menace and can interact with opposing players’ graveyards — rare utility for a creature-land. With escape cards still running around in Standard, Hive of the Eye Tyrant could have some extra value when dealing with cards like Kroxa, Titan of Death’s Hunger.

What do you think of Hive of the Eye Tyrant? Is it stronger or weaker than the red creature-land previewed so far?

Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms is scheduled for release on July 23. View our official preview gallery.
