Gavin Verhey brought Annie Sardelis, a visual writer for the Magic creative team, on Good Morning Magic today to teach people a new mini game they can play with just a booster pack.
Booster Sleuth is a deduction game that fans of games like Codenames or Clue will enjoy, but also rewards those that are familiar with Magic sets. One aspect of Booster Sleuth is that you don’t necessarily have to know Magic that well to play.
One player is a detective and the other is the clue giver. The detective opens a pack and removes one card from the pack at random and shows the clue giver, who notes its four traits: color, card type, converted mana cost, and number of words in the name. The detective now has to figure out the four traits or name of the mystery card by using other cards from the pack and showing them to the clue giver who tells how many traits each card shares with the mystery card.
Using deduction, the detective can narrow down the traits, though sometimes packs are less cooperative and lack cards with certain traits, so a final guess will have to be made without full information. Verhey and Sardelis play a game in the video to demonstrate how to play, then wrap up the video discussing how the mini game was created.
