The fourth day of Time Spiral Remastered previews means it’s time for red cards and Gavin Verhey previewed some direct damage cards on Good Morning Magic, including a timeshifted sweeper — Anger of the Gods!
Verhey started with reprints from the Time Spiral block, showing off a suspend card, a burn spell with scry that led to the return of the mechanic, and a color-shifted fan favorite. Check out Shivan Meteor, Riddle of Lightning, and Prodigal Pyromancer.
Verhey discussed how cards like Shivan Meteor can bleed into black’s section of the color pie when they deals 10+ damage as it reads as a kill anything, similar to an effect like Murder. The design team tries to limit this type of design now. Meanwhile, Riddle of Lightning in Future Sight was the first sighting of scry since Fifth Dawn and was a hit, leading to it returning in Theros then as an evergreen mechanic. Prodigal Pyromancer was the card that finally shifted pinging (dealing one damage at a time, often repeatedly) into red as blue got this effect occasionally up to this point.
Lastly, Verhey previewed a damage-based mass removal spell in Anger of the Gods, originally from Theros.
Now this iconic sweeper is back in a timeshifted frame, ready for cubes and eternal formats all over.
Time Spiral Remastered is currently scheduled to release on March 19, 2021. You can check out our official Time Spiral Remastered preview gallery here.
