Joaquin Effertz won Sunday’s SCG Tour Online Standard $5K Strixhaven Championship Qualifier #2 with Mono-White Aggro❄.
Mono-White Aggro❄ Joaquin Effertz
Effertz earned an invite to the Strixhaven Championship and $1,500 by winning the 286-person event while only dropping a single match in the Swiss. Effertz reached the elimination rounds as the No. 7 seed and had to win four matches to take the title, starting with Ben Pike on Mono-Red Aggro❄ in the wild card round. Effertz won 2-0, moving on to take out Andreas Hamonn on Temur Adventures the same way. From there, Effertz defeated Tulio Jaudy on Dimir Rouges (Lurrus) and Lukas Dusek on Sultai Ramp (Yorion) 2-1 each.
Mono-White Aggro❄ swung back into favor as the Kaldheim Standard metagame shifted around since last week where Cycling and Naya decks surged in popularity. This week, Sultai Ramp and Mono-Red Aggro were the most played decks, followed by Temur Adventures (Obosh). Leading into this weekend, Sultai Ramp (Yorion), Mono-White Aggro❄, Mono-Red Aggro❄, and Jeskai Cycling have won the past four SCG Tour events since the release of Kaldheim. All of those decks other than Cycling made the Top 12 this weekend.
