For only five mana, you too can enjoy all the benefits of this unique artifact!
- Anthem for colorless creatures? Check.
- Colorless mana doubler? Check.
- Life gain? Check!
Assuming Forsaken Monument sticks around longer than a turn, the potential for doing absurd things is very high. A ramp deck built around this card could capitalize on the mana doubling ability to cast powerful, colorless spells like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger or Ugin, the Spirit Dragon the turn after entering the battlefield.
For lower to the ground artifact decks, the +2/+2 anthem ability seems like a great curve-topper to help close out games. These decks also typically include colorless X spells such as Walking Ballista, Hangarback Walker, and Stonecoil Serpent, all of which benefit greatly from the mana doubling ability.
The final ability on Forsaken Monument may first seem insignificant compared to the first two, but often times incremental life gain can be very important, especially for ramp decks trying to outlast the more aggressive decks. That extra two, four, or more life could be the difference between a loss and casting a game-winning Ugin.
